I have read almost a dozen apt-get update questions, most from askubuntu.com , with failed to fetch errors and tried the solutions answered there. Unfortunately, none worked. I tried this really interesting solution today, which worked for me on an Ubuntu server. Some DNS or another issue in the apt was making it adamant to not installing some packages from a custom PPA. What I did was install the apt-fast package and use it to install my packages instead of apt.. apt-fast is an alternative to apt which works on top of apt but uses aria2c to download packages .
When you are trying to update your Ubuntu Server or Ubuntu Desktop sometime you may experience that Temporary failure resolving ‘archive.ubuntu.com’ and Temporary failure resolving ‘ppa.launchpad.net’ and Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead errors.

I am working on a Linux Mint 16 computer and since recently, every time I want to install something via apt-get install, the log message says that the packages couldn’t be authenticated.I go ahead and try to install them without authetication and it turns out most of the packages are not found.
